Pocket Pinball is operated by Retro Eki. In this policy “we” and “us” mean that company. If you have any question about this policy, contact us at hello@retroeki.com.
This policy covers both the Pocket Pinball Android app and the pocketpinball.com website.
The short version
We do not sell your data. We do not show advertising. You can use the app without creating an account. When you do give us data, it is to make a feature work: posting a score, sending a crash report, or finding pinball machines near you.
What the app collects
Account information. If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account identifier, name and email address. We use this to identify you across devices and to attach your scores to you. You can use the app without signing in, but you cannot post to the leaderboard.
Leaderboard data. When you post a score we store your chosen initials or display name, the score, the table it was set on, and the time it was set. This is published on the leaderboard and on pocketpinball.com, so treat your initials and display name as public.
Diagnostics and crash reports. We use Firebase Crashlytics to record crashes automatically. A crash report includes device model, it was set. This is published on the leaderboard and on pocketpinball.com, so treat your initials and display name as public.
Diagnostics and crash reports. We use Firebase Crashlytics to record crashes automatically. A crash report includes device model, operating system version, app version, and a technical trace of what the app was doing. When you tap “Send Report for Last Table Played”, we additionally upload application logs relating to that session, which may include the filenames of tables and companion files on your device.
Usage analytics. We use Firebase Analytics to understand which features are used and where the app is failing. This is aggregated behavioural data such as screens opened and features used, tied to a random installation identifier rather than your name.
Approximate location. Only if you grant location permission, and only to show pinball machines near you in the Discover section. We request coarse location, not precise location. We do not store a history of where you have been. Map tiles are served by Mapbox, which will receive the location it needs to draw the map.
Push notifications. Only if you allow notifications. We store a device notification token so we can tell you about things like losing a leaderboard position. Revoke this at any time in your device settings.
Your table files stay on your device. The tables, ROMs and companion files you add are stored in the app’s private storage on your device. We do not upload them, scan their contents for any purpose other than making them work, or transmit them to us.
What the website collects
Analytics. We use Google Analytics via Google Tag Manager to measure traffic. See the cookie section below.
Shop orders. If you buy from the merch store we collect your name, email, delivery address and order details in order to fulfil the order. Card payments are handled by Stripe, who receive your payment details directly. We never see or store your full card number.
Server logs. Our host records standard web-server logs including IP address, browser type and pages requested, for security and troubleshooting.
Legal bases for using your data
If you are in the UK or the EU, we rely on: consent for analytics, location and push notifications, which you can withdraw at any time; performance of a contract for shop orders; and legitimate interests for security, fraud and cheat prevention, and for fixing crashes.
Who we share it with
We use these providers, and they process data on our behalf:
– Google (Firebase) for authentication, database, storage, crash reporting, analytics and push notifications
– Mapbox for maps in the Discover section
Some of these are based in the United States, so your data may be transferred outside the UK and EEA. Those transfers rely on the safeguards those providers put in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
How long we keep it
Leaderboard scores are kept indefinitely, because they are a permanent record, unless you ask us to remove them. Crash reports and diagnostic logs are kept for 90 days Analytics data is kept for 14 months. Order records are kept as long as tax law requires, normally six years.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or object to our using it. You can also withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@retroeki.com and we will respond within one month.
To delete your account and leaderboard entries, email us at hello@retroeki.com.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Pocket Pinball is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and for significant changes we will say so in the app or on the site.
